Blue skies and boats - Bergen day trip

View off the back of the boat

Hey hey!

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Everything’s been a little crazy at this end but I am back
*cue balloons and fireworks*

I had the absolute pleasure of going to Bergen, Norway last weekend for a day trip with 2/3 of the family I'll be starting to work for in a few weeks. Georgina is also a blogger and has a super cool blog about travelling with a baby.
You can find it here (and simultaneously get major travel envy like I did).

For those of you who don’t know, Bergen is known as the gateway to the gorgeous Norwegian fjords. As we only had around ten hours on the ground, we had to plan our day wisely to make the most of our time there.

NB: This is a fairly photo-heavy post. Happy scrolling!

Flying into Bergen

We landed and made our way into the city to meet with Georgina’s lovely friend, Kristina, who lives in Bergen. First stop…

Did you expect any less of me?

Georgina bought Oscar the cutest little boat outfit so we had to do a little photo shoot before heading on to explore the rest of the city and grab some lunch.

You know you’re in a cold country when they have fur on the seats…

It had been solidly cloudy all morning (Bergen is known to have one of the highest rainfalls in Europe), but the blue sky came out to say hello and turned everything into a watercolour painting.

We had a bit of time to kill before our cruise departed so we found a pretty sweet view of a UNESCO World Heritage site, Bryggen.

When it was finally time to embark on our cruise, we realised we had been waiting in the wrong place and had to briskly walk to the other side of the harbour. Nothing like a bit of a panic to get the blood pumping!
I can, however, confirm it was a happy ending though and we did make it onto the boat. This post would be a bit of a flop if we didn't, huh...

So we jumped on the boat and went off to cruise around the fjords for three and a half breathtaking hours.

We sped out past all of the isolated houses (seriously, who lives there?!) and towards the beckoning fjords in the distance.

If you ever have the chance to make it to Bergen, I definitely recommend it! Words can’t describe and pictures don't quite do it justice…
Just go there yourself – I promise you won’t regret it one bit.

This next shot is actually one of my favourites from the day. It's not brilliantly exposed, it has sunspots and it's generally a little out of focus but it really captures the sense of isolation and serenity out there.

I snapped it while everybody else was looking out the other side of the boat at something else - I've found sometimes all you need to do is look off the beaten track, so to speak, to find the truly stunning sights.

After stopping at one of the waterfalls, the boat crew handed out some water from it to taste.

It doesn’t get much purer than that!

You can find all of the photos from this post (plus more!) in high resolution on my Flickr here.

Ten hours definitely wasn’t long enough in Norway but at least it’s given me a taste of what's out there - I can't wait to go back and see more.

Scandinavia seems to be a bit of a running theme at the moment as I just booked flights to go to Copenhagen in Denmark next month! Suuuuuuuper excited, as always I'll be sharing it all here for you to experience with me.

Have a lovely weekend everybody!
