AFF #2: "Don't Stop Now: Fashion Photography First" exhibition & coffee at Kaffeine

Hello my dear readers,

It’s time for the second edition of Art Freak Fridays! This week I went and visited the ”Don’t Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next” exhibition currently showing in the very centrally located London College of Fashion’s Fashion Space Gallery. You can see last weeks post here.

It’s the first of two parts, which was originally presented by FOAM Photography Gallery in Amsterdam. This exhibition is split into two sections: materiality and play. It hosts a wide selection of photographers’ work from all around the world, which is all brought together by these mutual themes. Upon entering, you are met with a wall full of newspapers for anyone and everyone to take. These take the place of programmes, which I think is a pretty damn cool idea.

It wasn’t a huge exhibition – I was probably there for half an hour at most, but I found it very worth going to see and would recommend it for anyone that is interested in photography. (Or even if you’re not. I think you’d still enjoy it.) Its name stems from the fact that "if someone tells you not to stop, it means you must be doing something good to begin with. The title of this exhibition is thus intended as a clarion call."

As a kind of introduction, they’re set up a space in the foyer where there are screens playing 120 second videos on repeat, paired with headphones underneath. The newspaper-style programme explains, “the photographers were asked to make a short film intended to say something about themselves, their practice or their process. There was no other brief, so the specific approach was left open.”

I found that last photo in particular quite striking. The lines, the shadows, the simplicity of it all. I wish I could’ve gotten a better photo but when there’s glass and lights involved, it’s verging on mission impossible.

Kaffeine, London

My somewhat short visit was of course followed by a coffee at another one of my favourite independent coffee shops in London, Kaffeine. I briefly mentioned this café in my post about The Ultimate Seminar – it’s amazing. Their coffee is life-changing and the café itself is a perfect blend of comfy and chic. Just go there. You won’t regret it.

Well, that was my Friday for you! I had a great day so I hope you had a great time reading about it.
I’ll be posting again soon,
